Default Transfer case cracked

WOW,
Remember when i made that thread about doing all that warranty voiding stuff to my truck. Well, last friday i went to change the tranny fluid and filter before I got down to BUSINESS for saturday. Then i noticed that the skid plate was oily. I thought the TC was leaking out of the tailhousing and needed a new seal. WELL, they told me the TC was cracked.

The warranty covers it (runs out march 2011). Now all I need is for the tranny to BLOW and I can have a dependable truck.

Can you believe that the TC is cracked on a truck that has only 48K miles and hardly ever used 4x4. In fact, i ran it in 4x4 on straightways in town every once in a while to keep the vac system and TC spinning with a load to keep it broken in.

Please send tips on making the Tranny blow. :P

How do you still have a warranty on a 2001?

To blow up the tranny without them knowing that you did that on purpose? Disconnect the solenoids in the valve body and run the crap out of it, after you successfully have destroyed the transmision, reconnect everything back up and refill the transmission fluid. That's a lot of work though

THe prev owner got an extended warranty at around 35K miles. It is good to roughly 100K and 2011.

I could not believe that either. But i went to the dealership and it cost 50 bucks to transfer it in my name. I have had warranty work done twice before:

TC seal
New power steering pump
NOW transfer case

All i need is for the AC and tranny to blow and I have basically got myself a new truck.

ANOTHER GOOD THING:
The TC gets a warranty for 36K/36months because all parts have that labor warranty. In my 1996, i had the torque converter go out at 105K miles but the converter warrarty was under by 2K miles and 6 months.

any time you get a big job done, make sure you get the warranty paperwork on that PART.

haha, especially getting the pieces back into the tranny. I am fine. The tranny runs smooth. Just needs the bands adjusted. Hopefully i don't mess that up when I change the fluid. I think adjusting the bands depends on the quality of torque wrench you have. Gonna have to get a craftsman over the autozone great neck...hmm new thread maybe

Craftsman have always done well for me. Just get it recalibrated every now and then and you should be fine.

The cracks are probably not due to abuse.
I bought my '95 with 42k miles in '98. It had spider cracks on the transfer case that had pretty minor seepage. I wiped it dry and smeared RTV on it and the leak is fixed. Been fine the past 145k miles that way.
I think some have been over torqued which caused the aluminum to crack.
