Its all depends on how much snow you get X by the number of people = profit.

You get a Poly-plow you are gonna be SO pissed off when you break it,..
And, you will. Not worth the time if you try to start doing work for money.
Going from driveway-parking-lots to street you almost always grab the curb
or where the parking lot meets the street. There's so many places you'll
run over something that snatches the blade of the plow. Patches, holes where
the edge of the plow when turned to the side grabs something. remember,
you can't see ANYTHING that's under 4 ft of snow. I know,.. I know,..
Everybody knows someone with a ploy-plow and they never had a problem.
Get a steel Boss plow and your worries are cut by two thirds. Try to pick up
3 to 6 accounts. (Small parking lots). Like taverns, Or small family owned
shops. Or body shops that are not located in a industrial area strip-mall type
setting. Gas stations are a no-no unless you got the proper insurance.Lots of
bad things can happen there real fast,.. Not good! Most of the time you'll
have to under-cut the price of somebody else to get the job.
Stay away from salting if you can. Cause, now you need a spreader of some type.
And you always have to have your salt on hand. Your not gonna get a good price
on salt unless you buy it by the semi load either. It will eat up your profits. And using
hand or walk behind spreader just sucks.
Try to get about 3 to 6 small jobs the 1st yr. If you can take home 3 to 600 bucks
every time a snow fall hits you'll pay for the plow the first year. (Get a nice big trans cooler too).
Most of your plowing will be done at night. That's just the way it is. People love their stuff nice &
clean by the time they get to work the next day. So, if you got a daytime job in the winter, it's
gonna get rough for you the following morning. I'm lucky, I'm off three to four months every winter
so it makes it a lot better. Good-luck. Hope you make lots of cash,...................... With -a-STEEL-plow!
M

Same size plow in steel is 176lbs more than a ploy plow that weight dose not include the 40-105lbs of frame for the plow to ride on.

Do you plow?

Yep, I use a7-6 Boss plow.
'96 ram ext-cab 360 4x4.
The truck has 278 thousand miles on it.
One rebuild on the trans. Motor burns
no oil between changes. Air works, runs
like new. But, it's rusting away from long
salty winters here in the midwest.
I plow 10 places every snow fall.
Each takes 10 to 25 mins to plow.
That's taking my time. Complete stops
before going into reverse or forward.
Only pushing what half of what I should
per pass if the snow is heavy or deep.
I too started with the idea of just plowing
my long driveway to make life easier on
my back. i have a big walk behind snow plow
also,.. But I love the idea of staying nice & warm
and getting the job done with just two passes for
my driveway. Not 10 mins to do it vs 25 mins in the cold
walking behind the plow.
The people next door will become your best friends too
once they see you have a plow on your truck...
They will like you a little less when you tell them it's
ten or 20 bucks to clean up their driveway for them,..
But they'll get over it. Buy a used Boss plow. Best for the money.
Don't like Westen plows. You let go of the toggle on the joy-stick
and the blade will keep moving a little. With a Boss, you release the toggle
and, the blade stops instantly. (Better control) in my op.
Also, if you buy the hand-held control with your set-up, don't leave it sitting
around on your seat with the truck unantended, They cost about 350 to 400 bucks for
a replacement. Somebody that knows about plows will ****** that thing up in a
heartbeat. Want your truck to last, go-slow when plowing! Also, get a nice heavy-
duty set of wheels, (like the ones on the bottom of a Snap-on tool box). When
your done plowing, & want to take your plow off, remove the skid-plates on the
bottom of the plow and replace them with the wheels. Now you can move the plow around while off the truck easy. Because, it ain't moving once it's off.
(Also makes hooking up the plow to the truck way easier).

Take your time with your selection,..
To each their own but,..
Meyer & Western plow, while cheaper in cost,
are less accurate in movement of the blade
than Boss.
Yeah, the steel blade weight IS something to think about.
But it's gonna take the punishment in the long run.
Weight - wise, all I have is 2500 front springs on my 1500,
& 2 inch blocks on the rear leafs. It doesn't sag over 1 1/2"
with the blade on. As long as your brakes are in great order,
you'll be fine. Too bad your not closer,.. I'd be more than happy
to let you drive my truck around with the plow on. Just to give you
a better idea. Remember, it's just my op. Not to say others aren't smarter or
more well informed. But, I've run this plow for 5 yrs now with not ONE
break down on it. (The truck is a different story lol).
