Default New Exhaust?

Ok all, so my kid (16) wants a new exhaust for the truck....stock right now. I live in SoCal so I need it to be legit.

He told me a price for a 40 series flowmaster is 84.95 + 50.00 to install....is that about right? I've read threads where its much more expensive...am I missing something or did the shop give him a BS quote?

Also, is the flowmaster the best option...he wants it loud, but i dont want it obnoxious.

Thanx guys !

thats a good quote bud bc i got a quote a few weeks ago to just buy a 40 series from a&a auto ( i do ALL my own work) and it was just shy of 100 $. so for you to pay 130 ish to buy the muffler and have it put on id say its a fair deal. ohh and by the way the 40 series sounds GREAT. just make sure it is mounted behind the cab and not under it or you will get that drone sound

i'd just put a cherry bomb or thrush glasspack on it...much cheaper and gives a nice rumble

(mine's loud as hell but that's b/c i chopped the cat)

I agree. I think as long as the stock cat is in place you could practically run a straight pipe and it still wouldn't be very loud. I have this magnaflow muffler on mine that doesn't even have any baffles or chambers, ie straight through 3" hole. It's basically a fat body glass pack from what I see and it isn't loud at all. Very mellow. I kind of wish it were a few dB louder at times for that macho effect. Of course I'm still running the OEM cat at the moment.

yea, i ran a straight pipe with the stock cat for a while when the exhaust system fell apart, sounded good, but sounded a little too tinny

before i cut the cat i still had my current glasspack and it was actually pretty quiet, but had a nice tone, now, with no cat (mine started rattling badly...i tilted it when i cut it out and chunks of material started falling out...) it's pretty loud, and the glasspack is kinda long, so it's got a deep tone...

my next truck's getting a straight pipe (7.3 powerstroke)

Also look into getting THRUSH FULLY WELDED MUFFLERS thier the same sound (knockoff) as a flowmaster 40 series, plus only 29.95 at summit IIRC.
