Default Quick tranny weight question

I have a quick question about the trannys,

I have a 46RH in sights ($100) and i plan on getting it and over time rebuilding it myself, so when my tranny goes i have a bulletproof tranny to throw in.

My question is, is that its still in the vehicle, and i would have to take it out....I would be doing it myself... So whats the weight of the tranny? Im probably going to drop it with the transfer case, and i know those are heavy sons of b******....would i be able to drop it myself? I have jack stands and ratchet straps....dont have a tranny jack...

But i just did the clutch in my buddies nissan and was able to man-hanlde the tranny/transfer case from that (94 Nissan d21 4x4) by myself...
(with the jackstands and ratchet straps)

Should i get people to help? or could i do it on my own? My whole 2 friends that i have, have no clue on how to work on vehicles, and no offense to them, but they are very weak...

the weight is mostly the transfer case though right? can i separate the two, and leave transfer case up? or will i not have enough room to separate the shafts?

Extra hand wouldnt hurt, if you could get a floor jack and plywood if your not on solid ground that would help also, here's a vid kinda long but gives you an idea http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NO96EJLroxY

You will have to drop the t-case. The A518 is a heavy SOB with the OD unit attached. I don't know what it weighs but I can pick up a NP231 and move it around, while I could barely drag a A518 around. You will kill or seriously injure yourself trying to remove it alone without a tranny jack. Even with a friend I don't think it would be safe or possible. Go rent a tranny jack or get one from harbor freight. I got mine from there and have dropped many transmissions with it.

thats a good vid....thats a 2wd, and he struggled a bit...so i think im going to have to buy a tranny jack to do this...my friends wont be able to cut it....BOTH of them couldnt get the tranny out of the Nissan. I went under bymyself, and i was able to rip it out...so i think that should say something lol.

i was able to remove a 46rh with transfer case out of a 95 by myself, with just a floor jack. but i ahad the body removed, so maybe that made it immensely easier. but with proper balance and a good jack, maybe someone to help with adjusting the jack from standing outside (so even a weak friend) you should be able to get it done with just a few busted knuckles.

Its probably about as big as the nissan unit. If its the one im thinking of. The RE4RO1A and transfercase is a fairly large unit. The t case on the nissan is bigger than the one in the dodge. (if its the one im thinking of)
