AC cutting off under acceleration
My ac blows cold while cruising, but while accelerating from a stop or a slow speed at around 2k rpm it completely shuts off or blows warm air. This can't be normal. No car I've ever owned has done this. It blows freezing cold otherwise. I'd like some pointers as to how to fix this problem, as it's really annoying. Thanks in advance!
Mine used to do that until I fixed the plunem, a couple of vacuum leaks and replaced a couple of vacuum check valves.
Start with the easiest. There's a vacuum line coming off the left side of the intake manifold (standing in front of the engine, looking at it--at least on my 2001). Trace it back and there should be a check valve right away, then a line y-ing off for the cruise control, then the vacuum resivior, then the climate control and another check valve, then the line heads down to ingage the 4x4.
Check to make sure the line are intake and not leaking. Replace the two vacuum check valve (they're cheap).
If you've been burning oil and you have some pinging or clattering when you accelerate, you've probable got a blown plenum gasket. Glance through the posts; it's not hard to find threads on plenum gasket replacement.
And welcome to Dodge Forum!

I don't know what size the hose was, but I know that you'll be able to match it if you take it in with you. If you place it where I did, you wont have any fittings to use. You'll just need a section of hose.
That part number is a Jeep part, and don't be surprised if they don't have it in stock.
Welcome to DF by the way.

Not to jack your thread but I have the same problem with my air cutting out and I also noticed that my cruise does not work BUT my 4x4 engages could this be a check valve? I just got 2 check valves from the parts store to fix THAT problem, but now my other problem lies with something else you can check out my other thread that im stumped on
That would be a leak underneath the battery box IIRC. Been awhile since I looked into it, but it is a common issue on our trucks. Might search for," Cruise control not working" or something like that under advanced search options and limiting your results to 2nd gen only.

Just got back from the Dodge/Chrysler/Jeep dealer locally, and got the part for 8 bucks with tax. Going to try to mate it up in my truck and see what hoses/fittings i need and then it will be off to the auto parts store down the street. Hoping for the best.
That totally fixed it. Thanks! I robbed a hose off my old supra engine sitting in my driveway and used that! took it for a ride and it doesn't cut out anymore! Now if i can just get rid of this stupid 138 and 442 CEL =/
I know this is over 3 years old but I have to thank you guys for the advice. I replaced both check valves and now my A/C is back to normal. I spend $15 dollars on parts and only spent 20 minutes doing it. Once again you guys saved someone's butt.
