Smile Quick Question

hey fella's
i have a quick question

I just picked up a 1998 ram 2500 with a 5.9 gas engine. The truck has 182,000 miles and i was wondering what weight oil would yall run in the truck...the engine dosnt sound tired or anything but the oil pressure when cold and at idle is above 40psi but once the engine warms up a little it drops a little below 40psi and maybe goes a little above 40psi while driving highway speeds when warm..

Any info would help...thanks everyone!

welcome to df. that sounds like a nice truck. ir'll have dana 60's front and rear which gives you lots of strength and options for gears, lockers, etc.

your oil pressure is perfectly normal and it doesn't make any difference which oil you run. the thicker 20/50 might leak a little less and might hold a tad higher oil pressure, but any modern oil is fine.

I've always been told that synthetics leak more than conventional. Is this true cause I run synthetic blend.

the 20w40 sounds good esp. for the summer heat but only if ur really gunna DRIVE the truck hard. if its ur daily driver i would stick with 10w40. thats all you need. there is no need for 20w50 (a very thick oil) when the hardest u drive it is revin it out once in a while.

I always run 10-30 in everything. I have always used normal oil as well but that will be changing. I have Royal Purple to put in at some point

10-40 is a good idea. If it seems like you have low oil pressure u shouldn't go to 20-50 b/c it will drop your pressure even more cuz of how thick it is but try out the 10-40 and see how the pressure is
