Default permanently locking CAD

I'm having alignement problems with the two shafts on my CAD. I am thinking about just sliding the collar over and permanently locking the CAD in place. I'm thinking with an open diff this should be okay? has anybody tried this with success? i know it will probably turn the front driveshaft too but when the t-case is in 2wd t should be fine right?

I guess you could but you're going to burn alot more gas. What exactly are you having problems with on the cad?

bearings and/or seals are shot, the two half-shafts are not lining up, causing the collar to bind and not lock in. I dont really drive the truck much or for long distances so thats not a huge worry. if i'm not mistaken the 2002 3/4 and 1 tons did not have a CAD correct? so this would basically be the same thing?

if a bearing is worn out it turning all the time is only gonna make it worse. I still don't see how your axle shaft and intermediate shafts aren't lining up? But if the truck isn't your main source of transportation I don't see it being a problem.

make sure the whole front end doesnt end up locking up. I would NOT lock the shafts IMO

In the photo, the intermediate shaft bushing is on the right and the smaller bushing on the left goes in the end of the outer shaft . These are not that hard to replace.

nice pictures. i have a similar problem, although it will eventually slide with enough attempts.

zman - if your not replacing seals or u-joints, what is the minimum amount of steps to replace them both?

if anyone finds a link for parts, post it in here to help everyone else.

You still have to remove the outer axle or at least slide it out a small amount to replace the smaller bushing only. Installing the larger bearing requires removal of outer and intermediate shafts. Which is not much more than doing a ujoint or seal for that matter, and both parts install easily with no special tools required.
