Axle Nut Problems
The breaker bar and pipe didn't work even with 2 cans of liquid wrench. I even shoved a 1/2 drive breaker bare in the other end of the pipe and that didn't work...took the floor jack back to it and bent the pipe. Anybody got any other Ideas? I've went through 3 cans of penetrating oil on the thing and 4 packs of cigarettes trying to figure it out. My shop's 3/4 impact is out of comission and I ain't in good enough with any other shops. I'm so damn frustrated I'm ready to drive back to missouri and ring the mechanics neck that worked on it. that nut ain't torqued to no 200ft.lbs if i'm picking the front end up off the ground. And the nut's only been on there for a week. What ever happened to good mechanics? Hell the ones that work out of their garage are the best now days.
My 1/2 inch just bent so bought the Harbor Freight 3/4 and had a 5 foot lead pipe.. still wouldn't give with a 180 lbs bouncing on it, took out the torch and heated the nut up then gave the pipe a good jump and it broke loose. A steady pressue would not break it loose it took a fast "break" to bust it loose.
Are you breaking it loose with the truck on the ground? I've always found this is the easiest way. Just take off the center cap and leave the wheel on, get an extra long cheater bar (a fence post is always good) and pull towards you. Having someone stand on the brakes helps as well.
