torque convertor cuts in & out
I've got a '01 ram 1500 slt with the 5.9, the torque convertor feels like it's locking in and out when rev'ed at high rpm's. Mainly around 4-5 grand it starts cutting and the truck feels like it's about to crap it's guts out on the pavement. Could this be due to the ecm being flashed or am I to maybe suspect the solenoids in the transmission? Or... is this normal because my '93 didn't do this and the ecm was never flashed. It's bugging me.
The truck has 120,000 miles on it with no check engine light. What I'm saying is that when I accellerate and when the engine spins up to 4000-5000 rpm the truck loses all power to the rear wheels. It really feels like a clutch is pushed in and out, alot like a rev limiter in a race car. The rpms start to bounce like the engine is governed. Really hard to explain. Just wondering if anyone else has ever had this issue.
why are you going up to 4-5 K? have you been beating on it? we have weak trannys, and that milage is around the time for a rebuild....and the TC is usually the culprit....hows the fluid? check while running in neutral...park will not give an accurate reading.
When in neutral or park it's fine. As for reving so high, that's when I lay into it when accellerating or passing. I've got 3.55 gears in the rear end usually cruise around 1500 in overdrive and 2k when the OD is off @ 60 mph. The fluid is fine, not burnt or dirty, but sometimes takes time to shift out of 3rd to 4th.

I would also say you're bouncin it off the chip.... more than likely your 93 didn't have a rev limiter so that would be the difference. these motors don't need to be up in that rev rangefor any amount of time anyways, thats more reserved for 2 liter hondas etc.
