Slr motorsport chip???
truck idle was fine before SLR chip. though maybe the computer was rereading and making truck rev but not to sure. check engine light wont turn off. everythings back to the way it was and still having the idle problem. maybe get it to the shop monday i guess
Get the codes checked by autozone or do the Key dance (do a search its a pretty common topic). Then bring the actual code back here and we can usually tell you what it is. If the IAC and its port is covered in carbon it will not idle properly. Also if the plunger on the IAC is turned or moved in and out it can be damaged. They do go bad eventually so it may just need to be replaced. It will usually throw a code when it goes bad so that is probably what the code is.
Superchips is a popular tuner on here, along with a few others. It is a really common topic so a search will tell you more than I ever could.

no. superchips is 98 and up.
hypertech offers a 97, but its for 1997 only. you might can find one used pretty cheap on ebay. ask specifically that its not VIN locked. if they don't know what you're talking about, don't buy it. the hypertech box can look fine, but be VIN locked and not work. a lot of people don't understand that.

Sorry 'bout that.
Glad your sending it back.
Back when I first got the truck, I tried a chip that was exactly like the SLR Motorsport chip, just different brand name. Hooked up the same way, same size, same claims, etc. Worked a little, then I read all the reviews on it online. Threw it in the trash the next day.
As others have mentioned, are those port injected or carb setups? Sometimes spacers are needed for certain types of air cleaner assemblies to clear the TB, but other than that, they are useless on our trucks.
JCWhitney, a joke of a company or not, doesn't test jack. I have no idea where you got that idea from. They are just a reseller.
If you post in a public forum, you're going to get opinions, negative and positive. If you don't want both, don't post in a forum.
BTW, we aren't trash talking, we are telling you the God honest truth. You don't want to listen, thats up to you.
The only two tuners that work with a 1997 that I know of are the rare Hypertechs, made specifically for 1997 model year, or the SCT. The Hypertech is a "canned" tune that is generic, but better than stock. The SCT can be custom tuning, specifically designed for your truck and the modifications/upgrades you have made to your truck.

dont think jcwhitney would say the spacer worked if it didnt. they obviously tested the stuff. not to mention alot of people have those spacers made at my shop, ranging from 1/2 inch to 1 1/2 inch. im not the only one with the spacer.

if your here to trash talk dont post. everything around is hear say, im looking for someone who has had hands on personal experience with the SLR Motorsport chip.

I don't have any hands on, or personal experience with the SLR thing. I don't need it. A device that you hook up two wires, and it magically gives you a 20% horsepower increase falls FIRMLY into the "too good to be true" category. Especially considering what it is. Basically, its just a resistor. A 10 cent part, in a 20 cent box, with 3 cents worth of wire, and maybe 10 cents worth of hardware, so, right around 69 bucks worth of pure profit. Doesn't that seem like good motivation to sell it to you?
The fact that they don't release dyno results is a tad bit suspicious as well. Don't you think if they had REAL dyno tests to back up their claims, they would happily plaster them all over the internet?
I also note that they do not specify testing methods..... did they do testing on a fresh truck for baseline numbers? Or, did they do their base tests on a flogged out POS? What ELSE changed when they added their bit of snake oil? A complete engine rebuild? Additional performance parts? Were there results repeatable? or, did they just do some 'creative' testing, and then use those numbers for everything?
They make some pretty tall claims, and have nothing to back it up. No independent testing, nothing. Testimonials? That's a laugh. Wonder if any of those folks actually exist.
This is a company taking advantage of people. Their product simply cannot deliver what it claims. A fair bit of what they say on their website is pure B.S. This product wires into the IAT circuit? Or the O2 circuit? Yet it can identify your specific computer? Wow, not only does it deliver impossible numbers, it is also psychic.
Want to do some performance tuning via your computer? Get a laptop, communications cable, and the right software, and learn to do your own tuning. That is the ONLY way you will get a custom tune for YOUR specific vehicle.

on the performance topic, I heard there was problems with our transmisions for around my trucks year? mine has slipped once or twice cold. since then i did a flush and its been ok, but i let the truck warm up all the way before i drive now. my brother sent me this http://www.redrider.us/518_parts.htm not much of a tranny guy, i take that kind of stuff to the shop. these kits are a bit pricy but it would be worth it right? i do some trailer pulling from time to time and i do some rap off the pipes here and there, (who doesnt). i just dont want to put another stock tranny in with the same potential to go bad.
