Slr motorsport chip???
Just bought a performance chip from slr Motorsport, anyone try these yet? i got the horsepower and torq gain but for some reason its reving up and down, sometime at a stop the truck will idle down so low that it shuts off. 1997 Dodge Ram 1500 360 engine. E3 sparkplugs, heavy duty wire cap rotor. 1inch throttle body spacer. any help would be great
Welcome to DF.
First, that SLR Motorsport chip is a scam. Google them, it fools your PCM for a bit by making it think the intake air is actually colder than it really is (which makes the PCM put more fuel into the air/fuel mixture in the cylinders), but eventually the PCM will "learn" past the chip and it will not do any good. It literally costs them a few dollars or less to make those "chips", and there is no way from a simple few wire connections you can make 50 HP. Return your unit, get your money back.
Second, your TB spacer does nothing for these trucks. These trucks are port injected, not TB injected, so its just a paper weight. Read more about that here.
Sorry to break those pieces of news to you, but there is just no such thing as cheap HP.

On one hand some people say the SLR chip is a scam, But alot more people say that they do infact work. They have alot more positive feedback than negative. My spacer increased the airflow for sure, i can hear the air whistle. all this stuff was installed recently and the difference is very noticeable. the truck shakes when i rev. hp is there and throttle response is touchy now. just need to figure out why its idling up and down and dieing at low RPM. the parts i intall are proven effective
Well, let me think about this.
The claims:
50+ Horsepower
50+ Torque
3-5mpg improvement
So, they are claiming to get a 50hp increase out of a base 230 horse motor, utilizing two wires (which go where?)?????? Something to the tune of a 20%+ power increase? And better gas mileage? I am sorry, this really doesn't add up.
And for your viewing entertainment, have a look at THIS thread, about the fourth or fifth post down the page. They have PICS of the inside of the "chip".
This is a scam.

It will temporarily increase your power a bit, as like I said, it fools the PCM. Eventually, gradually, you'll loose this advantage as the PCM learns that its being fed false readings. It does this because the IAT sensor is not the only sensor the PCM takes readings from... it also takes readings from the O2 sensor, for example. Eventually it'll learn your running rich, and gradually correct itself.
Increased your air flow? How did the spacer do that? You obviously didn't look at that thread I linked you in my last post. All it does is delay the amount of time it takes for the air to reach the intake manifold. The whistling you hear is from it not sealing properly, most likely due to lack of a gasket(s). How does that help your power?
Look... research both of these, on this forum and other places. You'll see we're telling you the truth. Both of these subjects have been brought up before here... this SLR chip and the eBay chips that claim 50 HP and 50 torque gains are the same. And both use less than a few dollars worth of parts, put it in a pretty package to make you think it cost them more, charge you what you think is a "bargain" and there ya go.

All my parts come from jcwhitney exept the slr chip. dont think jcwhitney would say the spacer worked if it didnt. they obviously tested the stuff. not to mention alot of people have those spacers made at my shop, ranging from 1/2 inch to 1 1/2 inch. im not the only one with the spacer. if your here to trash talk dont post. everything around is hear say, im looking for someone who has had hands on personal experience with the SLR Motorsport chip.

The spacers do work on carbed engines and TB injected engines. The gains on the carbed engines are usually noticeable on a high performance engine, on a stock motor the gains will be minimal. On a TB engine they work but from what I have seen the gains are only noticeable on a dyno. At least they work in theory on both of these setups.
We know you are not the only one with a spacer, there are plenty of ignorant people in this world.
It seems that enough people that have real world experience with the SLR chip know that they are a huge scam.
I do not mean to offend you or trash talk. There is alot of misinformation around needs to be cleared up. I suggest staying on the forum as there is a ton of good information here.
what chips can we get for our trucks that work? i need to figure out why my truck idles up and down and then down to 0 rpm and dies. i put the IAT back the way it was and reset computer. sending SLR chip back
