Default 2000 5.2 with P 0601 code??

I just got done test driving this truck a guy has that he wants to trade me.

Truck is a 2000 5.2 ext cab 4x4 5spd...

Runs great looks great and shifts smooth....only problem is it has a P 0601 code.

He said it's on there cause the kid who had it before him pulled the cat off and thats why.

I really want this truck but I dont want it if this code means $$$$$

Thanks Dave,

PCM....that's not really wanted to hear.

Anybody had first hand experience with this code?

No chance in hell the the cat being out of the exhaust would throw this code?

none.
no personal experience, but you can get a new pcm for about $250-300.

if the 2000 runs good, the p601 isn't that big of a deal. you can replace pcm with $250 and 4 screws. also, if it runs ok, there's no rush on replacing it unless you have emissions checking and it doesn't pass.
