popping back through the intake is usually a lean mixture - be it lack of fuel or a vacuum leak

I think Ugly1 is right on...

could be a multiple of things like everyone posted. one how is the wires ran and are the even in the correct order.
2 check the plemun for a leak as described in other post
3 check the cat see if it is clogged by pulling the o2 sensor out and start the truck.
4 it could possible be the crank sensor going out on you making it sound out of time.which in turn will tell the pcm to not pump as much fuel

check the obvious first before you start pouring money into a fuel pump..my suggestion would be to get a factory one from the dealer and not some parts store crap pump. that wont last to long

Thanks for all the replies guys. I'm not new to the motor world but this is my first dodge to own/work on. I got the problem fixed. It was my fuel pump. I wasn't about to spend $300 on a fuel pump for this truck so I made my own contraction. I have owned a few high HP LS1's and the first thing I would do is put a walbro pump in them. I spend 51.99 for this fuel pump for the dodge at autozone. I picked up one for an early 90's corvette. They flow about the same as the OEM one in the dodge. Here's some pics of what I did. I forgot to take some pics when I had it all in pieces but this will give you an idea. I had to break the piece of plastic that has the sending unit wires running through it but after that, the inside cup finally slid out. Took a hacksaw to the bottom to allow for the new pump to hang out enough to put the new filter on. I don't foresee any problems as long as there is gas in the tank. What do y'all think?

I didn't drop the tank. I took the bed off. Way much easier. Only 6 bolts, ground strap and filler neck screws. Unhook the tail light wiring and use a tractor to pick the bed off the frame. Took me 20 mins to get the bed off and 1 hour of research at autozone to see what pump had the same flow. 1 hour of assembling the new pump and 30 more minutes to tie it all back up. Taking the bed off also allowed me to assemble it and test it without having to worry about dropping the tank again if it didn't work. Now that I've done it, I figure I could do it again in under an hour if I had the pump in front of me. Running down parts sucks ***. I'm old and don't like being on my back if I don't have to be.

Hey there, new to this also and I am experiencing some of the same symptoms with my 96, 5.2. I put in a new fuel pump and after that it only read 26 lbs of pressure. It runs but I don't have much acceleration. What puzzles me it runs on 26. someone told me you needed like 48-50 lbs just to open injectors, but they must be opening or it wouldn't go. Help please. Thanks for any & all suggestions.

Should be 48-50 psi, sounds like you got another bad pump.
