He is in the military, and a fair number of bases have a multi-bay garage, that service members can use for free. Complete with tools etc. (not to mention a hoist.......) I know I made a LOT of use of them when I was in....
Yep, and I'm not happy with the auto shop that we have here. I've used the place twice so far and both times I didn't have that great of a time. The first time I went, I was installing my fastman TB and I was going to use one of their tool boxes...yea big mistake. I pulled out my $20 walmart special toolbox I bought 3 years ago and it had more tools then the tool box, at least useable tools. Then yesterday when I went to do my brakes, first off, I've never lifted a car let alone a truck before myself, at my first base they operated the lifts for you for safety reasons. So it took awhile to get my truck on the lift and then once it was in the air...oh god, the lift was uneven. The right side was fine, both arms lined up good but the left side drooped by about an inch in the front and about 2 inches in the back then once the truck was all the way in the air, well...I can't say how far off the left side was but it leaned. When I questioned the guy at the shop, he told me don't worry about it, it's always been like that. So needing to get my brakes done I started but only got one done then had to elave cause they were closing, on the way home bought a 3 ton jack, and started to work at home.
Oh, I still haven't ripped the column apart yet, brakes took up a lot of time and I still need to do the fronts today...
I was stationed at K.I. Sawyer Air Force base in the U.P. of michigan for a time, and the guys that ran the shop there were positively **** about everything being in it's place, and "right". Never had any problems with not having the right tool, and they had a rather large selection of air tools/specialty tools as well. I did an engine swap in a day there. That was kinda nice.
Probably different from base to base, just depending on how the guys that run the show are.
