Wheel bearing and U-Joint
Well I am getting up nice and early tomorrow so I can replace my front driver wheel bearing and front driver U-Joint. I also need to replace my passenger side wheel stud. I will be taking a bunch of pictures, and posting them here. It should be fun!!
It is fun as long as you have a good penetrating fluid. If you don't then good luck. Well good luck anyway, it's nice when a maintenance procedure goes smoothly and it really blows when it doesn't.
Hey at least you're not doing the ball joints too...LOL
Make sure you get the front abs sensor wire tucked back into place (if you dont have the dust shield anymore) It sucks when the brake drum cuts through it.
Good luck.
And +1 on a good penetrant

All right I am all done!! Took some time, and I am missing some pictures, like I never took any pictures of banging out the U-Joint. It took me a while to get the wheel bearing off. Be we did get it. Here are some pictures!!
This is the first picture that I took, because I forgot that I was going to take pictures.
Pictures are done with Blackberry, hard to keep the phone steady.

This rotor was replaced about 6 months ago. Still in pretty good shape.

Nice close up shot of my axle nut. These things are always hard to get off.

I stuck this screw driver in the U-Joint to hold every thing in place, because I forgot to get the axle nut broke loose before I took every thing apart.

Nothing like a nice impact air gun to make a job easy!!

To bad it wouldn't budge the damn axle nut. Time to break out the big guns.
This thing is a beast. I love breaking this thing out to do my dirty work.

Boo yeah, prepare to meet your maker axle nut!!!

This is my Uncle and our family friend (Its his garage and tools I'm using)
I was beating, and prying and beating trying to get this thing pulled off. And yes, did use a 3 pronged puller, we just had it off in this picture. We got the thing to turn and it finally came off.

And I am sorry, I forgot to take pictures after this point. But here is my last picture with the new U-Joint and wheel bearing on.

I paid $80 for this off E-Bay with free shipping.
From here I threw every thing back together and it was sweet. On the other side I replaced a rotor and wheel stud. Nothing to exciting.
All in all, I had fun.

Nice to see it went smooth for ya.
Keep an eye on the end of the axle tube for a couple days to make sure you aren't leaking gear oil. Changing the drivers side u-joint is what made mine leak. Then having to pull the passenger axle to change the driver axle seal is what made the passenger axle seal leak.

i always forget to take pics because im caught up in getting the truck done...
nice pics...it will be much easier now....but IMO you should do pass. side too, and the axle seals.....3 days after i did my first wheel bearing, the seal started to leak, and a week later my pass. wheel bearing was toast,
so i replaced
wheel bearings, axle seals, u-joints, and ball joints all at the same time.

Whats that bigger impact you used to get the axle nut off? I have a small impact but I want something that can break stuff like axle nuts off.
Next time you change a wheel bearing try using an air chisel.
