185+ would apply to the 4wd with the unitized bearing. but - on his 2wd does it use that same hub, or does he have a standard tapered bearing that goes on finger tight ?

edit - according to Haynes, on 99 and earlier 2wd, the front spindle nut is tightened to 20 foot pounds while turning the wheel in the forward direction, and then loosen 1/4 turn, and then SNUG the nut with finger pressure only.

i think 185 will lock her down luther. LOL

According to the manual, he has the hub and bearing assembly, similar to the 4x4. Why they just didn't use tapered roller bearings in a race, as part of the rotor, is beyond me.

It has tappered bearings ..... I asked the question because I couldn't believe how little amount they were tightened on. Basically just a little over finger tight.

Has a cap and cotter pin outside the nut to prevent it from coming off.

When did that change? The manual I am looking at shows a hub and bearing assembly? (of course, it is for the 2001...... and we all know nothing ever changes from year to year.....)

I used to build the Chrylser minivans in Windsor..... seems ever year they changed something on the chassis.... end of model year they removed lots of OLD STOCK that wouldn't be used for the next model year.

Like you I have the 2001 book but its got the different non-reusable nut on it. Have to put them back on finger tight I guess.
