Did the Plenum Fix
Short re-cap. I had started a thread a few weeks ago or so looking for someone local to do my plenum fix. I wound up finding someone local to help me. This guy works with me and before he came on the job, he was a full time mechanic.
I bought the Hughes kit and also cap, rotor, wires and plugs and went to his house where I was met by him and a couple other buddies.
Start to finish was just under 4 hours. My stock plenum gasket was well blown in several spots and plenty of oil in there. Threw the stock crap right in the garbage. It has been a couple weeks now and no more pinging or oil consumption.
Fingers are crossed that we will never have to do this job again.
Lastly, there were no pics taken that day...sorry.

feels good to get it done doesnt it....did you put in the manifold with the oil crust still in there? i got my manifold looking brand new inside and out for $40 bucks at a machine shop...and did you do the kegger mod? i noticed a nice gain doing those.
We cleaned the manifold up as best we could. I didn't mod the kegger or anything else. The truck runs well enough for me. Really, it is just basic transportation to get back and forth to work.
[edit] oh yeah....it feels great to know that it is done, and done right.

its no big deal if you didnt do kegger mod, i was just asking....but i can tell you i felt like a million bucks when i got mine done....my truck ran SOOOOOO much better...hope you got the same outcome.
you made good time as well...took me about 2 hours to tear it all down, about 5-6 hours of cleaning everything i could...and about 3 hours for reinstall....took long to reinstall because my fuel injectors were leaking...(took them out to have cleaned) due to not replacing the o-rings.

so i noticed that with the plenum kit it is good to do the plugs and roto, etc. however, i had a full tune up done last year which included new spark plugs and wires. with the full tune up, what do you believe should be done while doing the plenum. also, i've noticed that other problems have come up like fuel injectors leaking, is that a typical problem during this project or only bc you took them out? does anybody have a picture of the motor with the kegger removed? this would really help me get a better picture/understanding of the project.
i haven't noticed anything wrong with the oil pressure or pinging, but should i do the kit now or wait?
if anybody has pictures of the kegger mod can yall post them or send them to my email? samull5078@northgeorgia.edu

im going ahead and doing my plenum next weekend. it hasnt been done and needs to be. while im in there im doing my timing chain and water pump. new plugs wires cap and rotor and new o rings on the injectors. im going to do it all in one whack so i wont have to fool with it down the road
what is "cap" and "rotor"? more elaboration?
damn, i'm not mechanically inclined so the kegger is enough of a challenge for me. i don't wanna jack up my truck by touching the injectors...
