Default engine issues! swap to 5.9?

So i took my truck to the garage for the check engine light. Turns out My rings are gone in cylinder 7 and theres no compression. I found a few 5.2 and 5.9 engines on craiglist for $375-750. Is this a good price range?

My truck has the 5.2 liter. Can i do a direct swap if i find a deal on a 5.9? Does EVERYTHING swap over or do i have to customize anything to work??

Realistically, do you guys think i can sell my 5.2 with a bad cylinder 7 for anything to make back some of my money??

Thanks!

Not sure if all the sensors/connectors are the same, but, the 5.9 should bolt right in. Have to reflash the PCM for the larger displacement engine though.

Buying a used motor is a crap shoot. You are never sure just how many miles are on it, don't know if it has any problems, (unless you can hear/see it run before it is yanked) and may end up with worse problems than what you already have..... (I yanked a blown motor, installed the used one that I got a 'good deal' on, only to find that my 'good deal' motor had a rod knock......)

before you give up on your old engine, i'd guess that your low compression problem might be a cracked head, blown head gasket, or bad valve, more so than bad rings. the lower end of the 5.2 and 5.9 are very durable, while the top end suffers a more normal rate of failure.

you might ask how it was determined that it was the rings, rather than the head.

and you should get a second opinion.

if you do swap the 5.2 for a 5.9, you have to swap the computer, and something about the flex plate or torque converter?

The differences in the motor are the computer, and the internal balance of the 318 and the external balance of the 360. Do a search and you will find your answers. I have posted this info before so I know it is out there.

By the way the 5.2/5.9L swap info should be put in the FAQ if it isn't already.
