MY passenger side front wheel bearing is goin south and fast. I called the local auto parts stores, o'riellys and autozone. They both have them for around 100.00 but only carry a 1 year warranty. my buddy has replaced hsi wheel bearins one side or the other about every 14 months just out of the warranty period. I would like to get a lifetime if at all possible.

Is there someplace online that carrys a lifetime warranty on these? or any other parts stores that do? i wouldnt even mind driving 45 min to a bigger city to get a lifetime warranty at this point.

Any help is apprciated.

I know the more expensive wheel bearings at Advanced hold a longer warranty.

 

if you want them to last as long as possible, get timkens.

 

Since we're on the subject, is it normal for wheel bearings to start going out, making noise on the freeway when it's cold, but if you jack up the truck and try to move the wheel, everything seems solid?

 

i have timkins, and mine came with a 3 yr warentee.....

 

no, i don't think so.

the only way i know to have noise and no play is to have a standard tapered bearing, and wear it out so its roaring, and then tighten it up to remove the play. when you do this, it will still roar. with the 4wd sealed and non-serviceable bearing, there's no way to tighten it up.

my favorite way to check the bearing, is with wheel on the ground, grab the top of the tire and pull/push as hard as you can. should be zero movement. beware that movement can come from ball joint or bearing.

 

my truck had a hop and i replaced the driver wheel bearing with a timken...and i still had the hop, pass. side was tight when jacked up, but when i took it apart, i found it was bad, for it exploded when it came out of the knuckle. So what happened was it was all busted up and parts were in wrong places preventing the play in the tire...hard to explain, but hopefully you understood.

 

I understand. I checked the bearings by trying to wiggle the wheels while off the ground, and they were fine. The noise started, and the wheels still don't budge when lifted. Could be my problem, but doesn't seem likely.

The plastic bushing that aligns the passenger shafts to engage the 4wd needs to be replaced, but it doesn't seem like that could be making the noise I'm hearing. On a cold morning, I'll drive my truck a few miles to the freeway, then a minute after I hit 70, a noise like knobby offroad tires starts quiet, then gets louder, then subsides. At first it only happened once, now it happens over again for almost a minute. I've replaced the axle fluid, still does it. It seems like the noise is coming from under the driverside.

 

Where did you get that? I only see those with a 1 year for mine? Also, Dont the factory hubs last along time? Why doesnt anyone use a factory one?
