Default 4wd, lockers, and Gearing questions

I have been noticing that my 4x4 feels non existant, the front wheels dont seem to be providing the pull that im used to with a 4x4. It almost feels like there is a 20-80 torque split in 4wd. Is this common on 2nd gen dodges, if not how can i fix this?

Next i went up to a 265/75 and i feel a power loss on hills, i have 3.55 i believe. I want to go to a 285/75 what gearing should i go with that will allow power but not kill mpg more then normal for larger tires.

When i regear i have thought about putting in a locker to help my off road abilities, anyone have preferences?

Finally, anyone know of where i can get 1" lift blocks? I leveled my truck with a 2.5" hbs kit and its sitting higher in the front then the back and it will look mean leveled with 33's.
Thanks a bunch

my 97 2500 4x4 feels fine in 4wd, as far as the gearing and lift go, i want 4.56's in mine and im turning a 35 inch tire, id think you'd be good with a 4.10 for a 285. as far as the locker goes, great idea, id think a detroit tru track would be a good option. they're bullet proof, wont give you chatter around corners, and work great when you need them. if i had the cash i would do 4,56's and a tru track on my truck. And as far as the lift goes, cause i have the same thing, id do a 2-2.5 inch add-a-leaf in the rear and go with a 315 instead of a 285. that is exactly what i did on mine, and the add-a0leaf was around $200 at a local leaf spring shop.

I agree, 4.10s would be about right for 285s. I am going to be doing 3.92s, and eventually going to 285s when my 265s are worn out, simply because I got the 3.92 gears cheap from a guy who was selling his 2nd gen 1500 and never had the 3.92s installed.

Thanks for the quality reply,
Do you have any ideas of how i can check my 4wd to make sure its running right?
How are you doing on gas with the 315's and 4.56?

The transfer case does not differentiate torque at all. It is a 50/50 split. The front and rear are mechanically locked in 4 wheel drive. To check if you front axle is working at all, jack up the front end, and set it on jack stands. Start the engine, and engage 4wd. Do NOT put the truck in gear. Do NOT! grab one of the front wheels, and see if you can turn it. the opposite wheel should turn the other direction, grab the drive shaft, and see if you can turn that. If so, you have a transfer case problem, if not, probably a CAD problem. CAD is vacuum powered...... Does your 4wd lite in the dash come on when you pull back on the expensive stick?
