First Dodge... Seat belts???
I have never been a Dodge fan, but I just bought my first one about a month ago 1999 2500 ext cab cummins 5spd 4x4 that side swiped a pole. I should get it painted this week. Other than the seats being very uncomfortable and junk I am liking it..... But I can not live with the seat belt thing. I have seen several posts of people with the same problem but no one with any fixes.
You drive about 30-40 miles and all four seat belts will lock up and the seatbelt light comes on. I have replaced the roll over sensor under the middle seat and have cleaned the plug and checked the connection where it comes out of the carpet. Has anyone ever fixed this problem? What else should I check? Is there any kind of long term warranty for safety equipment or a recall on this?

Not wearing them is not an option. I own a body shop and see what happens when you dont.
I kinda looked around and didnt find anything on a warranty. I was just hoping that with as common as this problem is maybe somebody knew how to fix it?

Seems there is a recall on 'some' dodge truck front seat belt retractors?
has your truck ever been wrecked, to the point the air bag deployed?

I am not sure that would fire the pretensioners.....
According to what I have read, in an accident, the seatbelt pretensioner does its thing, and sucks up the belt an inch or three, holds you from getting tossed around quite so much. Trouble is, its a one shot deal, and once fired, the belts need to be replaced. I am not aware of a method to determine if that is the problem.
There is a manual for the 2001 available for download in .pdf format, which is where I got my information from. I highly recommend downloading it, and having a read thru. It might give you some ideas on what else to have a look at. I saw some suggestions on other forums of cleaning all the contacts on the module that controls/monitors them, and that is sometimes successful, provided the pretensioners haven't been fired.

Great news for those who sometimes want to shut off the seatbelt alarm! I obey the seatbelt laws because they can save your life! There are times when you don't need to buckle up! A few instances are when you are on private property and need to get in and out of your vehicle, hunting, fishing, photograpy to name a few. Get on the net and type in
"seatbelt alarm stop". Best wishes! Lou
