Default Lost 4th gear and overdrive?????

Lost both with no warning, was fine this morning this afternoon it was gone. Dont haul or pull much, just drive around with 600 to 800 lbs all the time which are just the supplies I have for work. It is a 2001 2500 4WD with a Cummins and about 240000 miles. Any common problems to check? Any help is appreciated

The truck is a 2001 2500 4WD quad cab with a Cummins motor and auto tranny, only upgrades I've done is 4" exhaust and a OEM style K&N air filter. The truck does not go off roading, it is my work truck. I did just have to replace the water pump friday, maybe its possible that it got something wet, the alternator shut down for awhile after it got wet but works fine now.

Just check all the lines to your transmission and make sure everything is plugged in....hope for the best! Most likely...your tranny needs a little work lol

sounds like you have a bad transmission overdrive and lockup solenoid -

Since you may be in there - I would suggest a new transducer and Governor solenoid, along with new filter...

I just did mine and also installed a shift kit as well..

something to consider, is the possibility that your fluid got too hot and your computer won't let it shift into overdrive. make sure your cooler isn't clogged. but more than likely your due for a rebuild

Yes I realized it was a 4 speed after I posted but anywho when the tranny is totally cool overdrive works just fine, also got no 1st gear either just 2nd 3rd and reverse. Im sure Im just screwed but we all have a little misplaced hope from time to time;-)
