Default Doing a Hemi Swap in 1997 5.2

I was wondering if possible to put a hemi into my truck and if it would be easy to do and if it would mount up to my stock trans. I know the ECM would have to be changed among other things but any information on a job like this would be appreciated. Thanks Tyler

Possible? Yep. Anything is possible. Easy? Nope. Not an exercise to be undertaken lightly.

You probably would have to get a trans, engine, wiring harness, PCM, etc. from a donor truck, and swap it all over.

Nothing bolts right up. If you are good at fabricating, then it can be done if you have a donor truck. If your not any good at fabricating and have to pay someone to do it, it will be much...and let me emphasize much....much cheaper to sell your 2nd gen, and buy a 3rd gen with a hemi.

I am currently still working on my swap: 01 RAM 5.2L to '03 RAM 5.7L Hemi. Things I can tell you: The trans (NV 3500) does bolt up with the exception of the top center bolt, there is not a bolt hole in the block. I bought my engine with everything from fan to cat. I ended up cutting the brackets that held the motor mounts out and moving them around until they lined up, then welded them back in. The splice into the existing harness is a pain, too. I had the ECM flashed by Dave at B & G Mopar. Still working on getting it running. I have things I am still working on and hopefully it should be running soon. Hindsight: I would have supercharged it!

Everything I've heard would point to a 360 modded instead of a Hemi swap. Simply put, the 360 is a beast.

It's not hard to change the Motor over and get everything hooked up.If you don't mess with the truck wires"Lights interior etc.... and only change the computer to motor and trans. it takes research and patients. It's well worth the effort once it's done.I Love Mine.

I got a friend that did the hemi swap into his 2nd gen. Hated it. Took it out and did a 408 stroker, kicked the hemi's butt.

Once I'm done with mine I will let you know how I like it. In my opinion the hemi is a better way to go if you are going to stick with an auto trans. It would be interested to see a hemi and a similarly modded 360 go head to head. A 408 of course would stomp a stock hemi, you have to compare apples to apples.
