Default hey guys need some advice on my buddies truck

hey fellas i spend most of my time over in the 3rd gen section but i have a question for you 2nd gen gurus. my buddy has a 99 1500 4x4 with the 5.9. him and the wife and rugrat came out of walmart tonight and the truck wouldnt start. no lights no noise nothing. he checked the terminals and they looked good. he tried the key again and still nothing. he took the terminals off the battery and put them back on and she fired right up. he stopped a few places after that and no problems. fired up right away every time. the truck sat for about 1.5 hours while they had dinner with some friends and the truck wouldnt start again. he unhooked the terminals again and she fired right up. so at this point we are completely baffled. any ideas?

Clean and tighten the terminals really well. Also, check and make sure the ground cable where it attaches to... wherever it attaches to..... Is clean and tight.

Also check the connection of the Positive cable where it hits Power Distribution box thingy. (yes, that is a technical term.)

+1 to that. I had the same issue, a wire brush and some battery spray took care of that problem.

not to sound like a repeat but +2...I would replace the connectors to the battery with brass ones (I believe)...it also depends what he runs off the battery. I run PIAA lights, amp, and cb so I can drain it pretty quick but I have problems with battery terminals and used that red spray stuff to help the connection.

are there any aftermarket security systems or remote start or anything else fancy. if so, temporarily disconnect them to see if the problem goes away.

Might be the starter starting to go out, if he keeps having the problem I would take the starter in and get it checked, make sure the wires connected to the starter are nice and tight and clean.
