hey all a friend of mine has a 99 ram 1500 4x4 5.2L 318 and he blew the motor he found another 318 out of a 1992 Dakota Sport and he knows im on the forum and he wanted me to get all of your inputs on whether it would work or not and if not should he go with another 318 or do a 360 swap he just wants to know if the dakota motor will fit or not and if not which would be better 318 or 360?
ALSO could someone set me up with a signature for here or tell me how to set one up?
Thanks everyone in advance

The signature can be setup under your User CP (Control Panel), first link in the black bar above the "New Reply" button.
I would think the engine would fit, however, there will be some differences you'll have to overcome, as a few various minor things were changed between 1992 and 1999.
Oh, and BTW, no need to bump your thread after only 6 hours.

i know for a fact im not mechanically inclined enough for a motor swap but my friend is (the one this thread is about, though he has never done one in a truck just small engines like 4wheelers etc etc) but what are all the odds and ends you guys are talking about? besides the senors i mean is there anything that i would need to tell him thats really important about doing a swap

Have the new engine sitting in the garage, yank the dead one. Compare.
Things like brackets and sensors are the big ones. Possibly the entire intake manifold (note: You can NOT reuse intake manifold bolts) Also have a look at the exhaust manifolds.
Even if the parts look similar, use the ones that are in the best condition. This is also a good time to do maintenance. Plugs, wires, hoses, belt(s), plenum gasket, water pump, timing chain and gears. Etc. All the things these motors are known to have some issues with.

The intake manifold will be different. The 1992 Dak has EGR where your 1999 Ram does not. And many sensors are different.
What I would do is strip both engines down to the long block, change the timing chain, freeze plugs, seals, sensors, plenum gasket, water pump, etc... Then swap the parts from the Ram motor to the Dakota motor. Brackets, intake manifold, distributor, timing cover, oil pan, etc...
