Default Hey 2nd Genners, Let's Fix my truck (few projects)

Alright i got a few projects i need help with.

Project #1:

Ok as most of you know i took on water in my transmission, and i had to drive it 12 miles home with it stuck in 1st and slipping.

I flushed it 5 times to where theres no sign of ANY contamination, new filter etc.

Now i have it shifting through all the gears, but sometimes its hesitant to go to third gear. this is the only gear having problems. sometimes it will shift perfectly, sometimes it will shift at about 2800 RPMS. (which is high since i go easy)

My old boss said its my TPS. Does this sound right? ive also had others say i need to clean my govenor tubes in the tailshaft (its a newly rebuilt 46RH, and was a beefed rebuilt)

Any ideas? i took it on the highway today and she went through all the gears, and downshifted with no problems. ran very smooth, so i hope thats a good sign. i can still feel my shifts a little bit, so i dont think the clutches are wearing out.

Project #2:

Harmonic Balancer has got some play, and now i have a layer of wetness underneath it, assuming thats the front seal leaking due to the wobble from HB. Now if i buy a used HB, how can i tell if its bad or not? i can get one for 20 bucks, but they do not have another, and theres no returns.

Also if im doing the front seal, should i do the timing chain? there wasnt much play at all when i did timing cover gasket about 9K ago.

Project #3:

My pass. window is messed up. We rolled it down, and now it wont come back up. i took the panaling off, and when i hit the switch i can hear a click in the motor when going down, but when i try to go up theres nothing. So i had to take apart the regulator so i could slide the window up, and wedged it.

My question with this is, how hard of a change is that? i tried getting my hands on it, but it seems like its going to be a headache trying to get that out. Driver window works fine, so i know its not a fuse. Does it sound like the regulator? and did i have to unbolt it to get it up? i could not push the window up with it bolted to the door.

Project #4:

I have to drop this gas tank. I cant get the clips out from on top. any tips for that?

As i do these jobs ill take pics.

Hey so i have had to project 2, its not bad. i went with a new HB it wasnt that much $$ maybe 50-60 bucks. i should have done the front seal, because mine is leaking. if you already checked the Timing belt it should be fine. i had already replaced mine when i did a waterpump. but TH HB isnt bad, and timing chain is easy as well.

Project 3 i am about to address. my window motor went out last year and ahvent gotten to it yet. i disconnected it and reconnected it and it works, but is really slow and sometimes doesnt work. the motor is like 3 or 4 bolts, i think 3. and it wasnt that hard to take out. the regulator its self should be fine, its just that the motor is at least 50bucks new.

the gast tank should be removed when empty. haha hope you know that. but put a jack under it anyway, loosen the bolts so there is play in the straps with the jack supporting the tank. that makes for a pretty easy drop. then you can beat and wiggle the straps til those clip parts come out. it can kinda be a PITA if its rusted, but shouldnt be to difficult if the tank isnt resting on the straps.

yeah you should be ok with that. if you ahve someone to help you manhandle the tank that is an immense help, esp when putting it back in!

before i dropped the tank i would jack the bed off the frame much easier than dropping the tank, there is only 2 bolts in the bed and a floor jack with a 2x4 will lift it plenty high enough to do anything to the tank you need to do

I'd take all 6 bolts out and lift the bed off the frame. It will be a lot easier to work on the gas tank.

before pulling bed bolts spray paint them so when you put them back in it makes it easier to realign the bed. dont use a dark color though

The window motor is not bad at all to change. You gotta wedge something in there to hold the window up very securely, I knocked my wedge out and didnt even realize it. Then on the inside of the door there are three bolts(7/16 IIRC) and the motor will slide out from behind the gear and your good to go. Took me no more than 45 minutes to do. Part was like $50 at AZ.
