pinging -
if you have a Jet Chip, remove it.
use seafoam or combustion chamber to remove carbon buildup on pistons.
check your injectors to make sure one or more is not running lean (i don't know how to do this, maybe clean them, maybe send out for cleaning/flow test.
try 180* t-stat.
try 3923 plugs (one range cooler)
use higher octane gas.
replace timing chain, hoping that your old one is very loose.
redo the plenum/intake gaskets. you might have a leak.
when all systems are correct, it doesn't ping.
