Default What are some axles that can swap for limited slip?

What are some axles that we can swap in to a 1994 dodge ram 1500 for limited slip? would a dana 44 work? I can get them pretty easy.

The easiest and most likely the cheapest is to just simply put a limited slip in the stock axles. Are you talking about the front or rear? The front is a dana 44.

rear, and I had no idea you could do that.

your options in the limited slip department are either Auburn or the Truetrac. Silver (a member on here) has the Auburn and really likes it. I have a buddy who has a Truetrac and he really likes it too. Bottom line, which every you choose between the two, you really can't go wrong. Just a heads up, this will get expensive because a shop will need to install this. Figure 400-500 for the limited slip, 100 for install kit, and somewhere around 300-400 for install. Your ballpark is going to be around $1000 by the time other misc items (maybe fluid etc.) and tax is all totaled up. This is the one reason I haven't done it yet

Wow yah thats alot more than I was expecting, I would prefer to just find an axle that already has it at a pull a part and just put it on myself, then itd be about ohhhhhh $40 lol. Only problem is that finding a Ram there isnt the easiest, but maybe.

Trouble is, you can't just yank one from a yard, and stuff it in yours, and expect it to work. You still have to go thru the gear setup, which is where the big money for labor comes in. If you were going to go that route, yank the WHOLE axle, and swap 'em out. If your truck is four wheel drive, make sure the new rear has the same gear ratio as the front.

Yep, and the trouble on top of that is the factory lsds are junk anyway. Most likely if you did find one in a junkyard, it would need new clutches put in. Your best bet OP is to pony up and do it the right way, or let it alone and keep the open rear.
