NHTSA Recall #96V230000 STEERING:WHEEL AND HANDLE BAR

NOVEMBER 18 1996
475,000 Rams recalled

1995 DODGE RAM -- If the plastic pins and metal clip that retain the lower steering shaft in the upper shaft break, the lower steering shaft can separate from the upper shaft.
If the lower steering shaft separates from the upper shaft, loss of vehicle control can occur increasing the risk of a vehicle accident.
Dealers will add a restraining sleeve to the intermediate steering shaft to limit the amount of axial steering column shaft moving in the event the plastic pins and metal clip are broken. For detailed information & supporting documents, see the official NHTSA page concerning recall #96V230000 »

Recalls are safety issues. If they notify you of one, and there is more, they WILL tell you about it. They are required to by law.

If you take your truck in to the dealer, even if it is just for an oil change, they usually will run the VIN for recalls, as they don't cost the DEALER a thing, corporate pays for all of it.

How would a hood come down on your head if the latch broke?

If the recall came out on November 18, 1996, the fix is on all trucks built after that date already.

I havent looked at the truck yet guys, I headed out and about 5 minutes later he sent me a text saying he better check and make sure he can get the title from the bank, said he had to put his truck up for a loan for a harley, so I dont know whats gonna happen, I expected not to hear from him again, but have, so we will see, maybe tomorrow or thursday he will figure it out, in the mean time.... im still looking.

If I do get it though and the dealer fixes that problem then that would be awesome.
