air filter mod
Ok so i tried to search as much as possible before i went ahead and made this post but i am looking for some info i just cant seem to find.
Are you guys running programmers that are using the 14x3 round old school filters? can i just take my stock 5.2 and throw one of these bad boys on there and call it a day? After i make the "S" bolt of course. Also what does this do to your gas mileage I think it would maybe stay the same or increase a little bit like .5mpg am i correct?
Also i have a dual exhaust on my truck that sounds pretty sick what will this do to the sound? Make it sound better i suppose huh?
Thanks fellas.

Yeup, just throw it on. You don't need a programmer but it would help. Doesn't affect gas mileage, but it might at first if you decide to lead foot it for a while. I didn't notice a change in my exhaust note, but some of the others have.
Put it on there and enjoy it. Its just a cool looking air cleaner, dont over think it. Your truck will be a little louder (cool sucking noise when you mash it) and IDK what it does to your MPG, it shouldnt hurt it if you keep your foot out of it.
Use a Dakota stud, like I did, its easy.

purpl i noticed on your thread about forgoing the s bolt, what exactly are the negative effects from your setup? what happens with the hose that is normally running to the top of the air filter after you switch to a 14x3?
some terms im not familiar with: WOT (wide open throttle?) and air horns?
ive been interested in this 14x3 setup, IMO it looks better than the lame setup with all this excessive hard tubing from the fender well to the TB.

That was my other question too about the tubing.
Most others say that the results of the 14x3 are better than the big bucks intake systems i was looking at a poll and the 14x3 beat everything by a long shot.

WOT=Wide open throttle.
Air Horns=The throttle bore openings on the throttle body. The raised 'wall's around the opening. Seems a popular mod to shave them off.... Guess it makes for smoother air flow into the TB.
The adapter he is using has a part that hangs out over both throttle bores. At WOT this is certainly going to compromise air flow. But, how much time does anyone spend at WOT?? Its a truck, not a race car. If you were concerned about every last hundredth of a second on your quarter mile times, it would be a no-no. However.... its a truck.......
As for air cooling with the 14x3, it isn't. You are sucking in hot, engine compartment air. It is freer flowing than the stock system though, so, in the end, I suppose it balances out.

thank you hey you. quick, to the point answers...good ****.
im not gonna be messing with the TB if i did the 14x3. just like you said, its not a race car.
what about the hose that originally connected to the top of the air filter housing?
