Default Custom Sub install help

I would like to install a subwoofer in my club cab 1500...

I know the options (under rear seat, under center seat) but I would like to see some pics of what other people have done. I don't want to buy a box. I am CHEAP! Building is more my taste...

Would be cool with fiberglass or wood, but again, would love to see what people have done. This is a hard one to search for. I found one, where the guy made a whole new center console. I would like to retain the center console and its function/looks.

Thinking down firing wood would be easy, and up firing fiberglass would be super cool. one of those pulled fleece kinda things!

What do you have?

I'm getting ready to build a fiberglass/MDF box that fits under the back seat. I'm waiting on the weather to warm up a bit so that the resin will actually cure.

Before I settled on that location... I though about removing the bottom of the center seat and building a box to fit there. You would still have use of your center console, and someone could even sit there if pressed for space.

The center console one would be interesting...

Just not so fun to shape it to look stock. Another use for fiberglass??? Maybe???

whats the biggest size u could get under the seat?

I have 1 12" behind the drivers side seat, sounds great but there is no way i could shove it under the seat. Plus each sub has specific dimensions it NEEDS to sound right and prevent it from being blown. You cant just make any size box you want and shove it under the seat, it has to follow the specs of the subwoofer.

I've done a ton of measurements and calculations. I'm going with two 10s... JL Audio 10W1v2-4. They require 0.625 cubic feet per sub.

Without having to lift the rear seat, I can get ~ 0.767 cubic feet per sub (and that is accounting for 3/4" MDF on all the sides, 1/4" fiberglass on the floor). The driver is going to consume some of that volume, and I can adjust the dimensions down to hit closer to 0.625 cubes/sub pretty easily.

I'll post a write up when I'm done.

Found an interesting post on another forum...

Here are the drawings that were attached, and a really interesting idea. Seat Risers!

If you can make the seat 4" higher, you have way way more options...

And some rough box ideas...

I have 2 12" subs under the rear seat and I've had them pointing at the back of the front seats, at the rear of the cab, pointing straight up, on each side pointing at each other and facing the floor and I think they sound best when they're facing the floor.

Do you have a picture of your setup? Did you build it yourself or buy it?

I built a box for a single 12" that sits behind the driver seat. Made it just small enough at the back for the seat to fold down and float just above it, but the bottom angles down so the sub faces up and is still level. Not very expensive at all. And I was actually quite surprised at how well it performs. Only downside is loss of legroom behind the seat, but then again there's not much to begin with.

I got the speakers from a friend because they were blown. Fixed them and threw them under the seat.
When I want a lot of thump and don't mind not being able to put the back seat down I throw the 12" Sony's in there, those boxes are huge.
