Default quick question about under the hood

so when i lift up my hood, the liner is starting to droop down in several spots. the weight of the liner was too much for some of the holders and it ripped right through them. extacly what is the point of this liner? and can i take it off for good and not worry about it?

Ive always been told its for mostly sound and helps with a little heat but ive tookem out of several cars before, Even my dads 472 hp supercharged mustang dont have one anymore. So, I believe you'll be ok.

The week after I tore mine off (1996 ram) the engine compartment caught on fire.

Keep it on there. It is meant to droop OVER the fire if there is one. If you have a fire, it can save your paint job. Get a small fire extinguisher as well.

I had to get a new wifing harness, injectors, throttle body, and every sensor from the thottle body back. The only thing that saved me was that I was in front of an autozone when it happened. They let me use their extinguisher.

it is fine and dandy until you have a fire under there. It is not mostly for sound. It is 100% for fire control. The reason it is held there with plastic snaps is so when there is a fire, the fire melts the snaps and the blanket droops over the fire...smothering it.

You know you are right about the fire part, Well some of it, I just happend to have one out in my garage so i tried to burn a corner of it, It wouldnt even flame. But i had some of the oem clips out of a 1996 camero and they dont melt as easly as you would think. But it might work. IMHO when you got a fire that would melt plastic like that your ****ed anyways.

Yea its a fire safety thing some say it works, others disagree, I keep fire extinguishers in my toolbox but they will only help if im around when it catches on fire.

I took mine off and you can hear the motor a little more, and it makes it a hell of a lot easier to pressure wash the under hood, If it was me and was already drooping I would take it off and not look back, wait thats what I did.

Yeah, you are screwed. Fire extinguisher is necessary. but that hood owuld have saved the paint job on my hood. Peeled the paint off and I had about a 10 inch gray patch on my hood.

If you have an extinguisher in your truck, then the hood is not necessary. As long as you can get to the fire and put it out in about 20 seconds, you are only dealing with some electrical. Your paint will be fine.

I just can't recommend to someone to take it off after what happened to me.

Go to advance or autozone, and get yourself some push pins or plastic rivets.

CPTA- Did you ever find out what the cause of the fire was?

I would say try to make some new holes (just incisions) and try to rig it up there.

OR

You can take everything off, and get some gorilla glue and glue it to the hood. Kinda like an engine compartment headliner.

It won't really help smother the flames (if there is a fire). But that will MAKE you get a fire extinguisher. I would say that an extinguisher is more important than a spare tire with these trucks. Especially if you are throwing money at them
