Default Exhaust size question (electric cutout)

I've searched through a bunch of threads, yet I continue to see back and forth between 2.25" and 2.5"...

Basically I'm picking up an electric cutout to throw on my stock exhaust and they come in 2.25" 2.5" and 3". (though they seem to be flared at the ends to that size?)

Anyway, any help would be greatly appreciated!

Crawl under your truck and measure the pipe that is under there now?

Well yes I suppose I could take the circumference and then find the diameter... though as .25" isn't that great of a value I figured it'd be easier and safer to ask specifically what size it is. (assuming someone has to definitely know)

The circumference will be 7.853 if the diameter is 2.5"
The circumference will be 7.068 if the diameter is 2.25"

I cheated, instead of thinking back to high school math I used an online conversion tool

So wrap a string around it and measure the string. If it is barely over 7" then it's a 2.25" pipe. If the string is almost 8" then it's a 2.5" pipe.

I like how Sheriff did that. I recommend following his advice.

If its still factory, it should be 2.5" after the cat all the way through, IIRC.

Different years have different size pipes the earlier years have a 2.25 pipe and in later years I think either 00 or 01 they went to a 3 inch

and i have heard that some people had 2.5 pipes, so save yourself the hassle and just measure it

Yup simple enough, measured around 7" (bend before the cat). 1999 4x4 Ram Sport.

Though the pipe section is only around 7.5" long, not sure if the cutout will fit anyway...

The section between the cat/muffler would be absolutely perfect, yet there's an o2 sensor mid-way...

You should be able to weld an O2 bung anywhere after the y pipe and before the cutout.
