I dunno... my roommate found a Captain whose husband caught orders for an overseas remote, and you can guess the rest.

it won't hurt anything to run it on syn, but if you want to be extra cautious, the ZDDP oil won't really hurt anything either.

Use it if it makes you feel better.

I soaked the rockers overnight in engine oil and that additive. I used the additive on the valvestems and rocker cups.

I was going to use the motor oil with the break in lube from the rocker application...after all, its 3 quarts of mobil 1!!!

I have a mechanics mirror. But i was going to take a picture here in a bit. It looks good to me, but I am going to spackle some RTV on there. Worst case, I can drive it and if it leaks, I can just order some more TTY bolts from hughes and redo on another weekend.

About the captain stuff. I actually had mmy soldiers come over the house and do the work. I just supervised. And by supervise, I mean I went inside my house (Its HOT in Arkansas from noon until 5 PM) drank some beer and then came out. I got a water buffalo from a reserve unit and put it in the sunniest spot next to the garage so they can stay hydrated. No heat casualties!!!

IMHO, id go and grab 93 right away instead of putting tune on then going for gas.
I already got some 91 octane (All they had at valero). I ran the tank to E then filled half a tank. That way i can find some 93 at an ammoco/BP.

I am a sunoco fan, but they don't have them here in NW arkansas.

As for the tune, Still need to wait for hemifever to send me the tunes. I forgot to send him my PCM PN, so he has to email them to me. Being a holiday weekend, i am not expecting them until sometime next week.

But that is a good thing. I get to see how the beast runs without the tune. However, i am concerned about the 180* t stat and the stock tune.

I put assembly lube on all the contact parts, then put them in a coffee can with mobil 1 syn. Then I soaked them for 2 days and installed them (putting assembly lube on all contact parts again).

I guess i will be alright.

Now I am putting everything together so I can flush the coolant system. Got some rad flush (descaler) from napa yesterday. Also got some royal purple additive. Arkansas has some heat, so i am gonna give it a whirl.

What are you concerned about with the 180 stat and the tune? Leaking? Pinging? Running too cold?

Actually, running too hot. I had a camaro that i put a 160* stat in and it would never close, and would stay open because the radiator would never cool enough to close the stat.

But it is going fine right now. Doing the rad flush. It is mostly water, so that is why the cooling is going so well.

Some comic relief:

1. I got nervous when the engine would not start. I had some trouble putting the spark plug wires in the distributor. BECAUSE I HAD THE ENGINE SIDES MIXED UP!!!

D'OH

2. I broke my coolant temp sensor putting the heater hose back on. So I bought another one. not a bad d'oh, but still a d'oh.

I will not be done until tomorrow. I am just going to flush the radiator today, and tomorrow I am getting her ready for a picture.

I like the way she purrs though. I half thought I was not going to be able to pull this one off.
