360 vs 318???
I have to replace my 5.9 on my 2000 ram 2500... Can i bolt up a 318? What do you think the diffrence in gas mileage would be?? Any info would apreciated... Anyone have one for sale in western canada???
plenum gasket went and started burning oil .. tried to make it home...stopped 3 times to put a liter in.. burnt 3 liters oil in 150km... replaced plenum gasket fired it up today and it is still burning oil and misfiring cylinder 1.. pure oil on plug.. no noise other than a miss of corse... the plenum gasket was almost gone in the front..
@OP: Change the plugs. While you have them all out, run a compression test.
So far as I know, the only thing you would have to change is the PCM. Or, get a tune for the new motor size, and flash it. change over all sensors, and it should work.
Edit: There is some question as to whether the torque converter is balanced differently between the two motors. Definitely have to use the correct flex plate, as the 318 is internally balanced, and the 360 is not.....

Compression is almost non existant on #1 but ok on all others.. I was hoping for a stuck ring...Wishfull thinking.. Plugs have been changed, but #1 keeps fouling with in 2 miles on test run... on third plug in hole 1... anything else it could be??

Rather than stab at it with guesses, I'll just recommend pulling the head for a closer look.
My best guess, though: Broken valve guide and bent or stuck exhaust valve. If that's what it is, it's probably a lot cheaper and easier to just fix the head than to replace the engine and futz around with all of the oddball fitment issues that come with it.

+1 .
When i remove the oil fill cap i can feel a rush of air like a piston pump... could a valve do this? my thought was a valve would go out the exaust or intake... am i on the right track? i would prefer not to re&re the motor...
