If you're going to gut it then you should go to the parts store and get a female to female 2.5" ID sleeve and two clamps so you can put the pipe back together after gutting, and you need to take the 02 sensors out of the pipe so you don't smash them up.
Your other option is to get a Magnaflow from summit and have a muffler shop weld it on, it should cost between 30 and 60$ to have the cat put on at a shop.

hey hey hey. just got my magnaflow cat yesterday. i ordered it thursday at 10pm and it was at my door in one day! got to love living in GA since it comes from McDonugh,GA. from my understading the cat will pass emissions. on the summit website it states it is emission legal in 49 states (not Cali. but what do you expect).
im having a muffler shop weld mine in on tuesday or ASAP afer the holiday. shouldn't be expensive to do at all. they just have to remove old cat and weld in the hi flow one. should take about 20-30mins. IMO i would go with the hi flow cat bc it ain't jerry rigged and half ***, its more professional/clean. the pipes leading up to cat are 3" but after the cat is go to 2.5" and then after the tire finishes at 3". jasonw explained it well. the muffler shop just puts a reducer on after the cat.
jasonw helped me out on this issue. i ordered mine from summitracing and the cat+SH=$83.

with the magnalow can you tell any difference in performance? sound? i already have a flowmaster 40s but i didnt know if having the magnaflow cat would make it a little louder (since letting more air rush through the pipes). i like the 40s tone so im not looking for loudness, just the solution to a clogged cat down the road
