Everything seemed in working order.

No leaks.

if the tranny hasnt been rebuilt....be ready to rebuild it, and thats going to be another $1600 at minimum

check tranny fluid while running in neutral on flat level ground...and make sure its up to temp.....if the fluid is low, dirty or smells burnt...expect a rebuild....but IMO if the fluid is bad at all id pass.

For $1500 you can't go wrong. you could always part it out and make a few bucks.

The tranny may be fine, its manual
