Default Master Cylinder

There is no break fluid in the booster, correct? If I have brake fluid on the booster then I have a failed seal on the master cylinder? If the booster is shot I should have brake fluid on the pedal?

Start off by explaining your situation. Is your MC leaking? The brake booster is just there to build up vacuum pressure for the MC.

there is no fluid inside the booster, its only a big air diaphram.
if you have fluid seeping out, its either spilled, leaking line, or leaking reservoir, or leaking master cylinder.

Brake fluid running down the booster is indeed a sign of a fail M/C. If the booster goes, you will be WELL aware of it, as you will have to STAND on the brake pedal to get your truck to stop.

Brake fluid running down the booster just under the connection of the MC. I don't know how long it had been leaking. Brakes did not feel soft, but close to 1/2 of the res was empty. I'll replace the MC in the morning and then grab my 8 year old assistant.

Shouldn't say "Running" since it's only wet...

It will weep like that for a long time before the M/C fails completely. I have seen boosters where the brake fluid has sat on them for so long, the paint has bubbled off...... Better safe than dead though.

Change it.

A few bucks for the peace of mind is WELL worth it. Take no chances with the wife and kids.

MC replaced, brakes bled. all fresh fluid...not many bubbles. rear passenger had the most. but not many in the other 3.

Someone fill me in on these self bleeding brake systems my father in law was telling me about. Or is he as full of **** as I already know him to be?
