It will sound bad and perform worse. Sounds annoyting, and you'll lose a lot of torque on the low end. I've also heard some rumors about it causing valve float as well. Thankfully people don't do it that often because it's ticketable.

it would be dumped at the back of the bed and i gots a quad cab though. should be far enough back not to float the valves. i've heard some on youtube that sounds good. could get a short y pipe. and connect it to my 45's out the back i got now

When I did some work on my bird (part of which was installation of a cat back exhaust) I ran the motor with JUST the Y-pipe, and the cat..... and I REALLY liked the way it sounded...... Not really sure what happened after that though, the cat just sorta 'fell' off.... Odd that..... I think it had a death wish.

Open exhaust will NOT cause valve float. Running your engine at too high of RPM causes valve float. Running NO exhaust (including not having manifolds) will Burn valves..... but, still won't cause valve float.

If you still have your cat, a pipe all the way back will be louder than the 40 series, but, obnoxiously so? You decide. (or the police will. )

what about dumped right at the end of the cab? or really sorta just cut. don't have enough money for a turn down tip

While that is technically legal.... I really don't suggest it. You want your exhaust exit as far from the passenger compartment as possible. Also keep in mind, the shorter the pipe, the louder it is going to be. If you have it ending right behind the cab, you best have a powerful stereo if you want to be able to hear it, and forget about conversation.
