so when i do the plenum im plannin on tryin to clean the TB and the intake manifold really good before puttin it back on, any recomendations on what to do to get it to shine like new again?
Simple Green. Oven Cleaner. Awesome (available at "dollar" stores, its actually a carpet shampoo, but, is very versatile. ) Brake cleaner. Probably carb cleaner as well.
Any of the above will do a good job. Just make sure you take anything NOT metal OFF before using.
Wire wheel the bad stuff, but DO NOT wire wheel the gasket surfaces.
Dousing grill grates in ammonia and putting them in a black garbage bag and leaving them in the sun all day works well for the BBQ, might work on the intake too.
Once the larger chunks get scraped of and wiped off with a rag I put it in a small parts washing tank I filled with mineral spirits from the hardware store. A pan full of a small amount of gas works in a pinch but you also have to dispose of it so...One cycle of scrubbing the tough spots with one of those green plastic 3M scouring pads in the solvent tank. Then I do one cycle of scrubbing hot water with lots of palmolive dishwashing liquid and scrubbing with green plastic 3M scouring pad just like it was a big dish and I'm doing dishes. Finally rinse it all off and dry it.
Good as new. The cool thing about soap and water at the end means oils are gone so dirt doesn't stick as easily.
kk thanks yal. i know simple green will work for sure, we use it on our planes to get them clean even though they dont like us too, but what they dont know wont hurt them.
