1997 dodge ram brake upgrade
haha im sorry but in searching the brake upgrade i just noticed some important information. The brake line shocker package.
Just had to put my two cents in, I've read all these posts on converting over to 3/4 ton brakes, and it works great, i couldnt get that trick to stop befor, and now " holy hell" we have brakes !! i have a 97 1500 2wd, i put on 3/4 ton calipers and pads, kept the 1/2 ton rotors, upgraded to 3/4 ton wheel cylinders with 1/2 ton shoes and the braided soft lines, front and back, thanks all you guys for the good information
Yes, have to use the Light Duty calipers though. (single piston.)
I am doing this upgrade this weekend. If anyone has questions on it let me know and I will try to answer them and post a few pictures.
I have a 1995 Ram 1500 4x4 with larger than stock tires.
Upgrading to
2500 8800# calipers (yes they bolt right on the stock mount)
Hawk super duty pads for the 2500 8800#
Rotors for 1500.
I just did this upgrade. Its easy, bolt right on, no grinding or adjustments. The calipers are much larger to accommodate the larger piston but everything fits as you see in the pictures.
The results are impressive. Granted I had 20 year old rusted calipers, the improvement is shocking. The truck actually stops and feels safe. For the first time in 8 years I can lock the front tires. There is no significant pedal drop, or odd feel in braking, but I do notice a better feel, possibly due to the condition of my old calipers. Overall I would recommend this upgrade.
In the pictures you will see the fitment of the 2500 HD (8800#) caliper on a 1500 rotor and hub.
The pads compare the original 1500 pads to the 2500 HD pads and a pic of the pads I used from hawk
