Um, no. Take the J bolts out and remove the terminal cables and it pops out.

Welcome to DF?

I don't know why I thought it was a difficult thing to do. It just seems like it would be. Haha.

I'm kinda new, but ive been a member sense like March.

If you can put gas in your car you can change the battery as long as you have a wrench.

What would be the best type of battery for our 2nd gen Dodge? Or does it matter?

650CCA is the factory battery for these trucks, but I find that they last a bit longer if you bump up to an 850-1000CCA battery. Course, if you just use it to start your truck, then the 650 would be just fine.

With all my auto stuff, I tend to blow up a 1000CCA battery every three months or so, but that is just my instance.

As for brand, they are all pretty well junkie. The only "performance" battery is from Optima, but you will pay a price for that one.

i have the duralast gold with the cca's that laramie is talking about and its a good battery but as he said the real performance one is Optima. With my duralast my volt meter always runs higher than 14 in my truck now lol but at least i know its still kicking. Also from autozone they carry Optimas on the shelf the 75-25 is the one that fits my 97 for yours i dont know which one you'll need but it runs 169.99 with the core charge and 149.99 without the core added on.
