Default cad motor gasket replacement question

heres the deal, i have a small leak out of my cad motor on the front axle of a 94 dodge ram 1500 4x4. I couldnt find the gasket anywhere so i just bought a roll of universal cut to your needs gasket material.

my question is, i have never had this thing off, is there any specail steps to replacing this gasket, or is it unbolt, new gasket, and bolt back?

i just didnt know if there was anything needed to be done to the collar inside the axle or what not

Just take it off, cut the new gasket, put some RTV on and slide the fork back on the collar. I have always used only RTV on my CAD with no ill effects. Be prepared for a little bit of diff fluid to come out.

Gasket is a dealer only part. Which strikes me as truly odd.... given that you can buy just about everything else in it from the parts store. (but, not the housing itself, ask me how I know.......)

Quad has them http://quad4x4.com/Dodge%20Frt%20Axl...AL_SMALL_PARTS
Scroll to te bottom of the page for just the gasket.
But I made my own witht the cork material and RTV
Quad and the OEM one has metal reinforcement.

Oh and one tip Be easy on the bolts I snapped 2.

Good point.

I just used RTV on mine when I couldn't find a gasket.

While you are in the CAD take a look at the little plastic pads on the shifter fork, they can wear. I think you can get them @ quad4X4 also.
