Default Need Advice on Ram 1500 performance parts

Ok,

Im new to the world of Dodge. I just got a 1996 Ram 1500 5.9L 4x4. I lifted it 5" suspension and 3" body. I then put 37" super swampers on it.

I now need to start planning and saving for performance parts. This is where I need help. I want to put on or change the following:

stock intake -> M1 intake manifold
stock headers -> Gibson, Edelbrock, or any other suggestions
stock exhaust -> Dual exhaust either flowmaster or magnaflow

I have been told by a few people to look into chipping the truck as well and could use some suggestions of what to look into and for.

My purpose in these modifications is to get higher HP, Torque, and power/speed out of this truck. Nothing I have listed is set in stone so I would be glad in hearing other suggestions.

Thanks for the help.

the SCT does not work on a 1996. He needs to send out his PCM to B&G to get reflashed. OR go to a dealership and spend 385 on a mopar performance 92 octane chip. I have one of those, but it is for a 1996 5.2.

+1 on roller rockers and 52MM TB.

+1 on not getting the M1. That is for race applications or cam/heads or SC

Nothing wrong with the M1 as long as you have a few other parts to accompany it.

The biggest thing your truck needs is 4.88 gears.

SCT does work on 1996 trucks, its the first year of OBDII and is supported email hemifever and talk to him for all the details, price with canned tunes is 275 and custum tuned is 375 last time I checked prices

I wouldnt go with M1 but would look into the hughes airgap should work better i your application.

Doesnt matter how bad the engine is and how much power you have if you dont change your gears front and back you will never be happy with this trucks power, with a 37in tire I would say 4.88 is your best bet on gears

dual exhaust works what size pipe do you plan on using, by the looks of what you want to do with the truck I would run a 2.5 pipes to give a good range without losing much on either low or topend, brand of muffler usually depends on preferance of sound sit on youtube for a couple houre and find what you like best

Maybe I was away for a while...The 1996 had an OBDII, but it was not programmable. You can plug it in and it will not work.

I just remembered that I needed a new PCM and could not get anything to tune my 1996.

Well I have talked to hemifever and he says it will work on my 96, there are a couple guys on here with 1996's and SCT, and there site says it supported.....so if it doesnt work i will be suprized, I know superchips and hyperchips dont support the 1996 body year because a couple sensors were a little different.

I'm just waiting a couple more weeks for 2 pay checks to buy my SCT

If you looking for cheap horsepower and really nice sound outta the box, maybe look into getting a quality set of ceramic coated headers out to dual exhaust with a nice flowmaster muffler or cherry bomb...whatever sound your after.

Hughes Airgap intake manifold would probably suite you well, only $600.
52mm Throttle body $200-400 depending on quality and brand
Electric fan kit are great, adds a guaranteed 7-12 HP plus 1.5 solid MPG gain and smoother throttle response

These are great places to start and really you just have to work around your budget and needs...
