I got the descriptions off of the FAQ section here.... I don't know how much/if at all things changed over the years. Either way, the codes are pointing to a loss of either crank sensor, or cam sensor..... (cam sensor is in the distributor, correct?) If you have already replaced the cam sensor, and are still getting the same codes..... Try the other one?

both are like 50 bucks? so i mean just readi what the codes are id lean more for the crank sensor first just cuz the engine speed is from what? how fast the crank spins? just my 2 cents, its gotta be one or the other, but i think the crank sensor would go out first, being in the position that it is in.

P0320: "Ignition/Distributor Engine Speed Input Circuit Malfunction".

P1391: "Intermittent Loss of CMP or CKP".

Me: Puzzled.

With those two codes together it seems like a no-brainer. But it doesn't seem to make sense for your symptom. I'd expect that if either the cam or crank signal is falling out enough to kill the engine at low RPM, it should also present symptoms at higher RPM -- which is why I ruled it out in my thinking last night. Very strange.

I dunno. Crank position sensor, maybe. It seems to be getting the votes anyway in the time since I started writing this, during which I've been thinking, drinking coffee, and scratching my head. If the crank sensor fixes it I'll be filing this one away as something that doesn't entirely make sense to me that should be kept in mind for later.

I could see how the cam sensor would be the more important of the two, as the cam sensor is the one that is going to determine which injector gets fired, etc. An intermittent signal from the crank sensor, or, no signal at all...... the engine could conceivably just use cam sensor data to keep the engine going..... I have no clue if it actually works that way or not. Haven't delved that deep into it. Yet.

nothing on this truck makes sense. sometimes it acts right and some times it stalls at every stop. maybe its a shorted wire on one of the sensors. ill check it out sometime this week and see what i come up with
