Default Transmission Pan Drain Plug Kit Universal Oil Drainplug

Transmission Pan Drain Plug Kit Universal Oil Drainplug

This information tends to get buried in other threads so I'm trying to put the keywords in the title to see if it works better.

i recommend that everyone put in a drain plug. dorman part number 65241 is one. you can put it in the side or the bottom. just place it where it doesn't hit anything on the inside, and put it on one of the flat spots.

for some reason, most parts stores don't know they have this item hanging on the rack in their store.

oreilly

summit, jegs, amazon, etc all have these.

Napa has an item listed on their web site, but its very expensive at $12 and its never in stock and they can't order it either.

picture of dorman's. it has the little o-ring (don't overtighten it)

Is the tranny pan steel? Couldn't you drill a hole in the pan and weld on a bung that uses a pipe plug? I'm just askin. Thanks.

And what happens with all the oil while you drill the pan and it explodes while you are welding? It is too thin too be welding. I used the B&M , because it is pipe thread, instead of relying on a gasket and a bolt you can't tighten very much without ruining the gasket.

I think it's obvious that you have to drain the oil and remove the pan before you drill/weld on it!

I only bought my truck a couple of months ago and haven't serviced the trans yet. I have done this on several tranny pans before and was just inquiring as to if it would work on the Dodge.

If you've done it to others without a problem, then I guess you can with this one too. I have not read of anyone here doing it.
