I got my front hitch for 25 or 30$ and welded it to the frame for free.

About the front tow hooks, you should let the 3rd gen guys know that they can get a 03 and up tow bar for 85$ from http://mintonmotorsinc.com/featured_items.html

 

Well reese sells tow hooks that are rated for 10k which one would be enough for my truck and I wanted to get 2 just to be safe, I was going to mount it either to the frame with grade 8 bolts or mount up a bracket if needed

I do not know how to weld and wouldnt trust any of my welding but I can get the metal and fab something up and have my dad get it welded so thats not a problem, originally I was going to go to a junkyard and pick up hooks from a offroad edition but cant find a dodge in the junkyard to do this

 

That's kinda why I put pics in my post #15, you can install the shackle mounts easy enough without welding.
I really like shackles as opposed to hooks anyway...

Thanks for the idea hammer, and im going to look up under the truck again this thursday and hopefully figure out what im gonna do I have one hook to use to see if its possible, if not might put this project aside until I have more time

 

I've actually read several times over on PS that the factory hooks are very strong. That's why guys over there where going through the hassle to fab up their own brackets to mount the factory hooks.

 

when i had my 2wd sierra i had a shackle that was rated for 3 tons, i hook it around the frame with a tow rope attached to it and throw it over the front of the truck and strapped it in the bed so if and when i did get stuck all i had to do was climb into the bed unstrap the tow rope and throw it to the pull truck and your done. i am in the Navy so the shackle and tow rope were easy to come by, the tow rope was a mooring line that held a fast frigate to the pier so i know its capable of holding together while someone yanks me out of the mud.

I agree. I've used mine for a temporary jack point (not reccomended), tow point and even a bumper skid plate and done nothing but remove paint.

As far as pulling, whenever possible (owning a long ****** strap helps) I loop it through both hooks and triangulate it to the opposite vehicle.
