I'm actually having almost the exact same problem in my 01...is the compressor supposed to continue running if there is enough freon in the system? Mine kicks on and off fairly quickly and it's hard to get a good pressure reading...I get nervous because the needle jumps up almost into the "warning" range on the gauge when the compressor kicks off. I'm not getting any cold air, although i'm pretty sure it was working when i bought it back in september

It'll keep running when there's enough freon. Sounds like you're low. I connect the can to the valve and add when it kicks on and when it gets enough, it will continue running and you can get an accurate reading. It's normal for the pressure to read high when it cycles off.

Did you pull a vacuum on the system before trying to refill?

When you jump the low side switch(green plug on top of dryer) does the compressor kick on?

If he did not pull a vacuum, it will not take refrigerant well, and certainly not enough to cool. And that does not even consider the moisture in the system will create acidic reaction.....which will cause problems in the future....

OP was getting cooling with jumper (Post #6).

@ o.p., sorry for thread jacking...I was able to get my system to take some freon...quite a bit actually. It was annoying having to wait for the compressor to kick on and then add freon before it shut off again. I'm going to see how long the cold air lasts to determine whether or not to bring it to have the vacuum pulled to do a leak detection. Thanks for the help on this one fellas
