If that really is the case it seems kind stupid to me. Then again why did it take Ford so long to address a problem that was killing people ?

They do? Wow is all I have to say. So your telling me that a V6 dakota shares the same tranny with a 3500 ram desiel or a gas 2500 or 3500?

It shares the same tranny with the gas 2500/3500. I think the Desiel has its own tranny. But the fact of the matter is that it is very sad that the 5.9L is shared with a V6's tranny.

5.9? Don't you mean 5.7 if we are talking about 05's?

No, I thought we were taking about the 94-01's, the 5.7 I dont know about. But I know the older 360 shares the same tranny as the dakota V6.

Ok, now that the dust has settled a bit maybe some of you would like the truth behind what Blown Tranny and bronco boy are talking about here.....yes, you will find the same A500 42RE / 42RH / 44RE transmission in a 3.9 durango/dakota as you will in a 5.2/5.9 durango/ram/dakota (yah thats right a compact pickup comes factory with a 5.9, its called heavy duty, you guys ever seen a late model ford ranger with a factory V-8?? didnt think so) any how, thats dodge's way of simplifying...pick a transmission and use it...unlike, ohhhh, i dunno, maybe FORD, just as an example, the taurus had only 3 different engine sizes but 15 different transmissions one year!!!! None of which were worth two chits either!!

Now we want to talk about dodges not being heavy duty? Lets talk. Dodge's "lightest duty full size pickup" is the 1500...in which the smallest V8 you can get is a 5.2 318....Ford's F-150 comes with a workhorse of a 4.6 liter (oh no....not the big 4.6!!!!)

By the way, I proudly own a 1998 dodge ram 2500 with 280,000 on the original engine AND TRANSMISSION!!! Show me a ford that can rack up those miles and still run, not leak or burn a drop of oil, and without a speck of rust. And no, they arent light driving highway miles, close to half of those miles were accumulated with a 22 foot tripple axle horse trailer on. It also spends plenty of time off road and has been running 35 inch tires for over a year...STILL NO PROBLEMS!! show me a ford buddy, show me a ford that can do that!!!

Thought some of you might enjoy these also.....

I have a 95 auto with 145,000 miles and no tranny problems yet. I have been running 36" for about 4 months.
