There have been numerous posts on the forum for and against the autolites. My truck didn't like them either, but the older models seem to like them better. I know there was a change in the stock plug snout length at some point in the 2nd gen life cycle.

I ran 7500 miles on them -So Cal to NY and back on Autolites and had zero issues gapped according to spec. The only thing was, the performance was not there. Normally, I always ran NGKs and, never had an issue with them. I was testing the Autolites out to see if they were any better than NGKs or not and, while they worked fine, (no misfires), the feel was just not the same as the NGKs. However, as soon as I got back to So Cal, I installed the Pulstars. After using all three- I'll never run another plug in my Dodge other than Pulstars. I like the feel and how it runs with them over conventional plugs.

Those are pretty expensive plugs there, but then again, so was the MSD box I bought.

But I swear it idles and responds better with that box on than off.

EDIT: just saw on the website the price has gone down considerably, and they state they can be used with the MSD box, hmm....

Go back to the stock .040 and report back. Do not break the iridium tips, pry back on the ground strap only.

I know for my truck, OEM gap is to be set to .035". Which years / engine models spec out 40 mils? Again, just asking in attempt to keep building my own library of knowledge.

2001 is definitely .040, I believe 2000 was as well, but now I'm not 100% as I thought the change happened on the 98 model year.

00 an 01 are gapped to .040, and I do believe that the change happend in 98 as well.

Squirrels, you have an 01 correct? If so, I have a 00 so those two years are a definite 40 mils.
